The e-safe Cyber ​​Security Summit, which assesses possible cyber attacks in our country and throughout the world, took place in the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (ICTA).

At the summit where experts in cyber security and industry professionals met, precautionary measures in cyber security were discussed.

ICTA President Ömer Fatih Sayan, Türksat CEO Cenk Şen and Türk Telekom Cyber ​​Security Director Ahmet Fethi Ayhan were in attendance at the summit.

Omer Fatih Sayan, the President of Information Technologies and Communication Authority (ICTA), pointed out the importance of increasing cyber security in the virtual environment and stated that when we look at global DDoS attacks in 2016, where it has become common for attacks of 100 gigabytes a second, there were two attacks on close to 1 terabyte last year.

Sayan noted that the number of devices connecting to the internet are increasing day by day and that now it is not only computers and but smartphones, smart home appliances, IP cameras, cars and many other objects that have connected to the internet.

Sayan said that cyberspace attacks on Turkey in 2016 was the year of increasing internal and external threats. He added:

“In 2016, services blocking attacks increased 6 times compared to the previous year. The number of SOMEs have increased by 40 percent this year, and as of today these teams have been established in 585 institutions. Through USOM the number of weaknesses we reported to establishments in 2016 compared to the previous year increased by 20 folds whereas increase in alarm, warning and general security announcements I was 9 folds. We are taking precautions by identifying internet addresses used for the purpose of spreading malicious software for stealing citizen’s credit card and account information. In this context, the number of sites we have detected has increased about 2 times compared to the prior year.”

"Six million cyber security workers will be needed in 2019"

Sayan added that published reports show that in 2019 there will be a need for 6 million cyber security workers worldwide. He said, “We aim to meet our need for experts by exposing the potential in our youth who are highly capable of working with technology.”
